What is Teen Patti?
Teen patti means ” three-card-brag, “, a gambling card game. It’s a gambling card game that originated in the Indian subcontinent , being popular throughout South Asia.
Players’ main goal is to receive best 3 cards in hand as high as possible for each hand ranking, and try to maximize the prize pool before your showdown of winning.
How to play Teen Patti?
1.Select a Dealer & Place an Ante
If you are going to play online teen patti, there’s no need to worry about the dealer. An ante is collected from each player to form an initial pot (prize pool) that players will fight over.
2.Receive Your Cards & Start Acting
The dealer deals 3 cards face-down to himself, and each player get 3 cards as well. Later on, the first player can choose to play “Blind” or “Seen.” It means he can decide to play with or without showing the cards.
- Blind – If you are playing blind, you must bet at least the current stake (Boot). The current stake for the next player is then the amount that you bet (if he’s playing blind as well) or twice the amount that you bet (if he has seen his cards already).
- Seen- If you have already seen your Teen Patti sequence, you must bet at least as much as the current stake (if the player who bet before you had seen his cards too) or at least twice (if the player who bet before you was playing blind).
3.Continue Acting
Each player will have the option of folding, calling or raising as a blind or seen player. How much a player can bet depends on the current stake set by the previous player.
If blind it’s either 1x or 2x the stake, and if seen either 2x or 4x the stake. If the player who previously acted is seen, what is considered the stake will always be half as much as what the stake is considered to be from a previously acting player who is blind.
The players must keep betting until one of the following things happens:
- All except one player has folded. Here, the remaining player wins all the Teen Patti chips in the pot, irrespective of the Teen Patti sequence held.
- All except two players have folded and one of these players at their turn bets for a show. Here, the Teen Patti sequence of both players is compared.
4.Request a Sideshow
At any point of the game, during your turn, you can request the player who bet immediately before you a sideshow. That player can either accept or refuse the sideshow.
- If the sideshow is accepted, the two players compare their cards, and the player with the lower ranking Teen Patti sequence must immediately fold. If they are equal, the player who asked for the sideshow must fold.
- If the sideshow is refused, the betting continues as usual.
5.Demand a Showdown
Whenever players have folded or side-shows have occurred as to leave only two players left in the game, one of the players can demand a final showdown. The player how doesn’t demand it must either fold or call. If he calls the two players will show their cards and the one with the highest hand ranking will win the entire pot.

Blind play
When someone plays blind, that means he cannot see his cards and places his bet by guessing the strength of his card combination and of other players. He should place a higher bet if he has faith in his luck, believing that his card combination will be stronger than other players.
If somebody wants to play it safe and not take risks, he should place bet for a smaller amount.
Play (Chaal)
Anybody can choose to see their cards at any time and then place a bet (when it’s their turn) depending on how strong he thinks his card combination (ranking of hands) is. He can quit if he thinks his card combination is not strong enough.

Sideshow/backshow, and compromise

The player can either accept or decline others sideshow request. Player may want to decline sideshow if one is trying to bluff way through, in that case one is likely to fold due to poor hand when two hands are compared. Player may also want to decline sideshow request if one is holding a strong hand and/or would want pot money to increase to make game more interesting.
If the sideshow request is accepted, the two players involved privately compare their cards, and the player with the lower hand is forced to fold. If the hands are equal, the player who asked for the sideshow is forced to fold.
If the sideshow is refused, the player requesting the sideshow must bet to stay in the game or fold.
Show the cards
The betting of teen patti goes on like this until one of two things happens:
- All but one player pack : The one remaining player wins all the money in the pot, regardless of what cards he or she holds.
- All but two players pack : In this case, during his or her turn, one player pays for a “show”. At this point, both players’ cards are exposed and compared and the higher-ranking hand wins the pot.
The following are the rules for a “show”:
Seen player can ask for a show with blind player for four times the current bet.
If both players are seen then either may ask for a show by paying two times the current bet.
Note: A blind player cannot ask for a show or sideshow.
In most modern teen patti games, especially happens where the stakes or bets are high, shows are paid for at the current bet level. Also, a blind player cannot ask (nor can be asked) for a sideshow, but the blind player can ask for a show instead. For a show, a player can choose not to show, if they give up the pot.
Ultimately, all rules are discussed and agreed by all players before the game begins, so it can be flexible depends on players’ agreement.
Teen Patti Ranking of Hands
There are two ways teen patti is played. One is by using a standard 52-card deck and another is by adding the two Joker cards, which are used as wild cards. The object of the game is to have the best three-card hand and to maximize the pot before the showdown.

2. Pure Sequence / Straight Flush
It’s also lucky to have this second best hand in teen patti. Three consecutive cards of the same suit and color (for instance, A-2-3 of hearts or K-Q-J of clubs)
3. Sequence / Run / Straight
Three consecutive cards of different suits (for instance, A-2-3 or K-Q-J of a spade, heart, and diamond)
4. Color / Flush
Three cards of the same suit and color, but not in a sequence (for instance, A-K-K of hearts or 9-4-3 of spades).
5. Pair
Two cards of the same rank regardless of color or suit (for instance A-A-9 or 5-5-J)
6. High Card
High card would be the worst hand, while you have only few chance to win. Three cards that are not in a sequence, of the same value or the same suit (for instance, A-9-4 with two diamonds and one spade)

Betting Methods of Teen Patti
Tight vs loose play
Loose and tight in teen patti means a player’s general tendency to play hands beyond the first round or to fold them quickly. There is no commonly accepted threshold in terms of certain ratio or percentage of hands played.
Generally, a “tight” player will often choose to fold weaker hands, while a “loose” player will bet on more of these hands and thus play more hands to the showdown.
Entry fee
Usually, an ante will be put on the table (the pot). This ante may be in the form of an equal amount put by each player, or a single larger amount put by one player (usually on a rotation basis).
An ante is a forced bet where each player places an equal amount of money or chips into the pot, before the deal begins. Often this is either a single unit (a one-value or the smallest value in play) or some other small amount. A percentage such as half or one-quarter of the minimum bet is also common while playing teen patti.
An ante is paid by each player ensures that a player who folds every round will lose money (though slowly). This actually encourages each player continue to play rather than folding the cards at the beginning of the game.
Blind
A blind or blind bet is usually a forced bet placed into the pot by one or more players before the deal begins.
The most common use of blinds as a betting structure calls for two blinds:

- Big blind : the next player blinds what would be a whole bet

After the ante and the forced blind bet(s), the regular betting starts with the next player putting his bet amount to the pot.
The total bet can be divided into two components – the call and the raise, both being usually called Chaal.
Each player has to place a bet that is at least equal to the previous player’s bet, with the option of raising the bet. And then, this bet becomes the next current level of bet (Chaal). Usually, there is a limit imposed to the raise, such that the total bet amount (with the call and the raise) cannot exceed twice that of the previous player’s bet.
Also, the bet should be in even amounts (2,4,6,8…), especially when there is one player still in the game as a Blind player. It is because the player playing blind plays half of the normal bet, and odd amounts can’t be halved.
It is very important to understand that this betting structure is different from Poker, as every time the bet for each player is new, and the amount is disregarded.
For example, if one player bets 2 units and the second player raises it up to 4, now the first person would have to put additional 4 into the pot to make a call or would have the option to raise the bet up to 8. For Poker, the difference is that the second player adds 2 more to bring his bet to a total of 4.
